For western and northern Germany, Cologne, Düsseldorf, the Ruhr and Hamburg, the Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry from Essex is an efficient way in, with a straightforward drive on from the Dutch coast. For the south and east, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich and Berlin, we usually take a short Channel crossing and drive on through Belgium into Germany.

- The route: the Hook of Holland ferry for the west and north, or the Channel and a drive through Belgium for the south, whichever suits where you are going.
