We cross the Channel from Kent, drive south through France, then either take an Alpine tunnel such as the Mont Blanc or Fréjus into the north, or follow the Riviera coast road for destinations nearer the Mediterranean. From there it is the autostrada on to Milan, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Rome or Naples.
A few things shape the plan for your move:
- Timing: it is several days on the road, and how far south you are going matters, Milan is a good deal closer than Rome or Naples. We schedule around your dates.
- Access at both ends: many Italian town centres have ZTL restricted-traffic zones, along with narrow streets and upper-floor apartments without lifts, so we flag access early and arrange permits where needed.
- The route and tolls: French and Italian motorway tolls and Alpine tunnel charges come with a long southern route, and we pick the crossing that suits your destination.
- Customs paperwork: Italy is in the EU, so most people moving their main home bring belongings in free of import duty and VAT under the EU relief for personal effects. Italian customs usually also wants supporting documents, such as proof of your Italian residence and a tax code (codice fiscale), and we prepare the inventory and declaration.
